With it they sacrificed.
Then indeed, from being mere equals among the gods, they went to supremacy by the same sacrifice;
they attained the same prosperity.
Now, fire is brahman;
Indra is royal power.
This [sacrifice] has indeed the ninefold and fifteenfold [stomas].
Brahman is the ninefold [stoma];
royal power is the fifteenfold [stoma].
By the ninefold [stoma] Fire went to supremacy; by the fifteenfold Indra.
Its two sāmans are the Bṛhat and the Rathantara.
Brahman is the Rathantara; royal power is the Bṛhat.
By the Rathantara Fire went to supremacy; by the Bṛhat Indra.
If a Brahmin and a nobleman should desire, 'Being mere equals among our own people, may we go to supremacy, may we attain the same prosperity through the same sacrifice,' they should sacrifice with this.
Being mere equals among their own people, they go to supremacy, they attain the same prosperity through the same sacrifice.
By the ninefold [stoma] the Brahmin goes to supremacy; by the fifteenfold the nobleman.
By the Rathantara the Brahmin goes to supremacy; by the Bṛhat the nobleman. Now, in that these
stotras of the ninefold and fifteenfold [stomas] are interwoven—
2-3.132.p1
—therefore [this sacrifice is] the nest of Indra and Agni.
2-3.132.p2
Regarding this they say: 'In the sacrificial session, that which consists of the ninefold and fifteenfold is interwoven.'
2-3.132.p3
Just as the ninefold and fifteenfold [stomas], so are these stotras interwoven.
