2-3.138
Just as one would sprinkle with water what is burned by fire, exactly like that is it for appeasement.
About that they say: 'Whoever sprinkles with water what is burned by fire, it either flakes away more or turns into white leprosy.'
It should be performed on those very verses containing [the name of] Vāyu: 'O Vāyu, come with favorable thoughts to our sacrifice reaching to heaven.'
Vāyu indeed is appeasement; [it is] for appeasement, for non-burning.
About that they say: 'Whoever, having kindled fires, fans them with wind, it blazes up even more;
this is indeed blazing.'
And about that they say: 'The sacrificer should indeed desire that he blaze up.
In so far as it is for blazing, Vāyu is indeed for blazing;
in so far as it is for appeasement, Vāyu is indeed for appeasement.
Therefore it should be performed on these very verses containing [the name of] Vāyu.'
His sacrificial fee is both a she-goat and gold.
The she-goat belongs to Agni; gold belongs to Agni.
Moreover, they say an ox is the sacrificial fee.
An ox indeed conveys [the load]; Agni conveys the sacrificial offering to the gods.
Thereby they make the stoma prosperous with its characteristic mark.
