2-3.18
It is seed that enters first, which is the Gāyatra. From that, the other limbs develop. It is breath that enters, which is the Gāyatra. The other limbs settle around it. It churns out these breaths, the open spaces [of the senses]. The Gāyatra is indeed breath. The Gāyatra is the head itself. The head is indeed that abode of breath. Therefore, one should begin with the head with the nine-fold [stoma], then with the fifteen-fold for the wing, then with the seventeen-fold, then with the twenty-one-fold for the tail, then with the twenty-five-fold for the trunk. Thereby they mount upward to fame, upward to prosperity, upward to the heavenly world. And also for them, this day becomes chanted around with those very auspicious and peaceful stomas of the Jyotiṣṭoma. And also for them, these very auspicious and peaceful stomas of the Jyotiṣṭoma become a vessel for protective measure.
