This indeed is the highest light, which burns here. This is the unafflicted deity. Having taken hold of this unafflicted deity, he emerges. They make firewood sticks of udumbara wood, moist and with leaves. Having gone [to the fire] with: 'You are firewood, may we flourish,' he places a firewood stick on the Āhavanīya: 'You are a firewood stick; you are splendor; place splendor in me, svāhā!' Having placed it, he attends [the fire]: 'We have wandered after the waters, we have united with their sap. Full of milk, O Agni, I have come; unite me with luster!' Just so the wife, having placed [firewood] on the Gārhapatya, attends [the fire]. Having taken the vessel of clarified butter along with the offering spoon, having gone around north of the Āgnīdhra fire and the sadas hall, having sat down behind the Gārhapatya fire, and having placed the black antelope skin on his lap, having taken clarified butter in four ladlings, he offers: 'May Agni place in me faculty, seniority, preeminence, svāhā!' Whatever glory is in him when consecrated, that glory is in him when he has arisen. He should not neglect that black antelope skin: he should make it a base for the offering ladle, or the surface for crushing the sacrificial offering, or deposit it for a newly consecrated woman. This indeed is the Keśin consecration; Keśī Dārbhya settled into this consecration.
