2-5.161

He had a beautiful world. He said, 'Father, whose world is this?' 'Mine,' he replied. Then there was another world, even more beautiful. 'Whose is that one?' [he asked]. 'Yours,' he replied. He said, 'Father, since you have given more than I, and more has been studied by you than by me, why then is this world yours and that one mine?' He replied, 'O dear son, that world was indeed one to be won by vows. You are indeed more observant of vows than the two of us [or me]. Therefore, this world is mine and that one is yours.' 'Go,' he said, 'you will indeed attain whatever wish you shall desire; your wish will be fulfilled. But keep your fingers curved [crooked].' He reached completion. Having reached completion, he said, 'Let the drinking vessel indeed belong to Brahmins!' It indeed became the drinking vessel of Brahmins. Thenceforth, down to the present day, the descendants of Ṛjiśvan are possessors of drinking vessels.
