2-5.178
Now comes the Abhijit. The gods and the asuras contended in these worlds, in this universe. Those gods desired: ‘May we conquer these worlds! May we conquer the asuras, [our] rival brethren!’ They saw this sacrifice. They brought it. They sacrificed with it. By it they conquered these worlds; they conquered the asuras, [our] rival brethren. In that they conquered these worlds, that is the abhijit-nature of the Abhijit. He conquers these worlds, he conquers [his] rival, the hateful enemy, who knows thus. Its stomas increase by three; these worlds are three, for the conquest of these worlds. They have four turns; the quarters are four, for the conquest of the quarters. They praise on [verses] containing ‘abhi’ (unto/over), for the conquest of these worlds. The Ābhīka, the Abhinidhana, the Abhīvarta, the Ābhīśava—these are the sāmans, for the conquest of these worlds.
