This indeed is the form of the hair, namely that it is an Atirātra. Those which are white are the form of the day; those which are black are of the night. Therefore it is an Atirātra. Its [stomas] are in reverse order. In this regard, [they say]: 'He who is consecrated mounts upon someone superior.' His morning pressing is twenty-onefold: twelve months, five seasons, these three worlds, [and] that Āditya is the twenty-first. This indeed is Varuṇa; he mounts at this point upon the consecration of Varuṇa. Whosoever mounts upon someone superior and then does not make submission to him—by whichever affliction he desires for him, to that he leads him. Now, in that these stomas are in reverse order, submitting themselves, acknowledging [this], the stomas come back downward. Whosoever mounts upon someone superior and then makes submission to him, [the superior] indeed says to him: 'Come here! Do not depart.' In that the Āśvina rites rise upward again, it is just as if one were to say to him who submits: 'Come here! Do not depart.' His [sāman] at the midday [pressing] is the Rathantara. This [earth] indeed is the Rathantara: he is firmly established on this very [earth].
