2-7.208

The Vasus went first. With three trivṛts they cleared this world; with one pañcadaśa they settled in succession. With three trivṛts they cleared this atmosphere world; with one saptadaśa they settled in succession. With three trivṛts they cleared that world; with one ekaviṃśa they settled in succession. Just as is the sharp edge of an axe, just as is fire among the deities, such is this trivṛt stoma. Just as one might go cutting in front with an axe, making [the ground] level behind with fire, so indeed the Vasus cleared these worlds with the trivṛt stoma. Because they cleared these worlds, therefore these stomas are also called 'Prayuts'. Just as one might go settling in an easy-to-traverse ground cleared by fire, so indeed the Vasus went. Therefore they are the highest among the gods, for they went first.
