2-7.228
They became fish. He created a third [generation of] creatures. They also perished from him. They became birds. He reflected: 'These three kinds of creatures which I created, being without brahman, without food, without sacrifice, have perished. Come now, let me create creatures from brahman, from food, from sacrifice.' He placed food within himself. He rumbled over it; it sprang forward. They became the two breasts. Because he rumbled (astanayat) over it, that is the breast-nature (stanatva) of the breasts (stana). It overflowed (atyakṣarat); it became milk (kṣīra). Because it overflowed, that is the milk-nature (kṣīratva) of milk. He indeed then placed rice and barley within himself; this is the milk of rice and barley. He reflected: 'Truly, I am capable of [providing for] him whom I might create; he would obtain food, whatever I might create. Come, let me create!'
