2-7.233

Now, that [an animal] belongs to Indra-and-Agni: Agni is brahman;
Indra is kṣatra; [it is with the thought:] 'With brahman and with kṣatra as a pair may I smite Vṛtra, evil.'
With brahman and with kṣatra as a pair he smites his hateful, evil rival, whoever knows thus.
The introductory verse of the third day belongs to Viśvakarman (vaiśvakarmaṇī).
The upālambhyā animal belongs to Viśvakarman; the animals are for Agni and for Mahendra.
In that the introductory verse belongs to Viśvakarman and the upālambhyā animal belongs to Viśvakarman: Prajāpati is Viśvakarman; thus they gratify Prajāpati in the end.
Moreover, in that the creatures, when released from Vṛtra, evil, undertook all work (viśvaṃ karma), therefore it belongs to Viśvakarman.
The animal is for Agni; the sacrifice is Agni, lest we go away from Agni, the sacrifice.

2-7.233.p1

Now, that [an animal] is for Mahendra:

2-7.233.p2

Indra indeed he was before the slaying of Vṛtra.

2-7.233.p3

Having slain Vṛtra, he became Great Indra (Mahendra).

2-7.233.p4

For by a greater deed one attains to more.

2-7.233.p5

Therefore, indeed, they call a victorious king a 'great king'.

2-7.233.p6

Now this Śunāsīrya [rite]: what faculty and vital power Indra had when he smote Vṛtra, that was the plowshare (śuna).

2-7.233.p7

What milk the conquered year had, that was the plow (sīra).

2-7.233.p8

So [thinking]: 'What faculty and vital power Indra had when he smote Vṛtra, and what milk the conquered year had,

2-7.233.p9

both of those we shall obtain.'
