That became this intermediate space. "In between (antar), indeed, has this both become," [he thought]; hence the intermediate space's (antarikṣa) nature as intermediate space. He cast the third [syllable], "ho", upward. That became the sky. "That has shone (adyutat), as it were," [he thought]; hence the sky's (div) nature as sky. Prajāpati, indeed, in the beginning divided speech of single syllable threefold. These became these worlds, bare, not fit to support life. He grieved; he practiced heat. He considered: "How may these worlds acquire hair? How may they become life-supporting?" He saw this three-day rite, the sacrifice. He took it; he sacrificed with it. He placed it in order along these worlds. Thereupon these worlds acquired hair; thereupon they became life-supporting. That indeed is the fullness of the three-day rite, that is the rising of the three-day rite, by which he who knows thus attains preeminence over these worlds, an abundance of cattle, two-footed and four-footed.
