Vital power is this sacrifice.' Then they say: 'He who of the two yoke-fellows is the stronger drawer is to be seized. For through vital power is he the stronger drawer of the two. Vital power is this sacrifice.' Regarding this, Śaunaka Kāpeya and Abhipratārin debated: 'Of what color and form is he that is to be seized?' The two agreed on a black and reddish-brown one: 'He who, being white, has black [marks], or being black, has white [marks]—that very one is the bodily mark of Prajāpati. Prajāpati's eye swelled; it fell away; it entered the waters. Thence the horse (aśva) arose. Because it swelled (aśvayat), therefore it is called horse (aśva). Because it arose from swelling, therefore it has a bad smell; because it entered the waters, therefore it is of a bright, white color. For an eye, being white, has black, or being black, has white. That very one is the bodily mark of Prajāpati. That one they seize on this occasion.'
