2-8.282
And the higher stomas are odd. The seasons, indeed, are odd. The seasons, indeed, generate all this. Thinking, 'May they who generate all this cause me to propagate.' Day by day, releasing a stoma, they proceed; day by day, they bring near a stoma. The stoma, indeed, is a hero. Day by day, thus, generating vital power they proceed; day by day, they bring near vital power. Syllable by syllable, ascending, they proceed. There is a one-syllable finale on the first day, a two-syllable finale on the second, a three-syllable finale on the third, a four-syllable finale on the fourth, thinking: 'May a hero stand upon the syllables, may a hero stand upon the syllables.' There are different Agniṣṭoma-sāmans, for the distinct vital powers of heroes. He is indeed no hero who is a hero according to another's vital power; he alone is a hero who is a hero according to his own vital power. That there are different Agniṣṭoma-sāmans is for the distinct vital powers of heroes.
