And in that they proceed ascending with higher stotras, they proceed placing more vital power in the eldest. A two-day rite, indeed, is extended here. Which, with the Bṛhat and Rathantara: on the verses 'Unto you, O bull, pressed' [abhi tvā vṛṣabhā suta], they should make the Rathantara the pṛṣṭha on the third day. In that it begins 'Unto you' [abhi tvā], by that they do not deviate from the form of the Rathantara. The third day is extended with unexhausted Gāyatrī. 'Who was that Indra, helping you?' [kas tam indra tvāvaso] is the Maitrāvaruṇa-sāman. Here the syllables of these [verses] correspond: those which are Gāyatrīs are Gāyatrīs; those which are Kakubhs are Kakubhs; those which are Bṛhatīs are Bṛhatīs. The meters are applied according to their proper place. With the Gāyatrī the first day is extended, with the Triṣṭubh the second, with the Jagatī the third, with the Anuṣṭubh the fourth. On the verses 'Thee we seek with sacrifices' [taṃ tvā yajñebhir īmahe], they should make the Bṛhat the pṛṣṭha on the fourth day. In that it begins 'Thee' [taṃ tvā], by that they do not deviate from the form of the Bṛhat. The fourth day is extended with unexhausted Anuṣṭubh. 'We to thee, unapproachable' [vayam u tvām apūrvya] is the Maitrāvaruṇa-sāman. Here the syllables of these [verses] correspond: those which are Gāyatrīs are Gāyatrīs; those which are Kakubhs are Kakubhs; those which are Bṛhatīs are Bṛhatīs. The meters are applied according to their proper place.
