2-8.285
Cattle are the Jagatī; this sacrifice belongs to the Jagatī. Therefore, one who desires cattle should sacrifice with it. And they also say: 'There should be thirty-six [stotras].' The Bṛhatī consists of thirty-six syllables; the Bṛhatī reached the heavenly world. That, indeed, is related to heaven for him; therefore, one who desires heaven should sacrifice with it. Those are three Jagatī [quarters]; there are three Jagatī quarters: by that, they do not depart from the form of the Jagatī. And they also say: 'There should be twenty-four.' The year consists of twenty-four half-months; it is procreation. This sacrifice is procreation; thereby procreation is effected. Therefore, one who desires procreation should sacrifice with it. That becomes one Jagatī quarter: by that very fact, they do not depart from the form of the Jagatī.
