2-8.293

These utterances are indeed a conquest; the five-day rite is a conquest. He conquers, he conquers, who knows this. That indeed is the conquest of all for one, the total defeat for the other. With this, indeed, the gods conquered everything from the Asuras; the Asuras lost everything. He conquers entirely the hateful rival, and his hateful rival loses everything, who knows this. Now, these [days] are continuous. Just as timbers are bound together by a strap, of a chariot or of a cart, so the five-day rite is continuous with stomas. The stomas, indeed, are the breaths; a person is continuous with the breaths. He is extended, who knows this. Two by two, yoked stomas carry his day. Of yoked ones, two by two carry best. With a yoked one, he goes wherever he desires to go.

2-8.293.p1

Now, for him who has this three-day rite consisting of Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus, the twenty-five-fold Mahāvrata,

and the all-stoma Atirātra—one desiring food should sacrifice with it.

2-8.293.p3

Regarding this, they say: 'The Mahāvrata is not to be undertaken before a year.'

2-8.293.p4

As to this three-day rite consisting of Jyotis, Gauḥ, and Āyus: this world is Jyotis, this [intermediate world] is Gauḥ, yonder [world] is Āyus.

2-8.293.p5

These worlds are the seasons, the year.
