2-8.310

They sought to harm him. He reflected: 'How now might I slay seven of their domestic cattle each day?' He saw these two sacrifices. He brought them; he sacrificed with them. Then indeed he slew seven of their domestic cattle each day. This is that unbreached thunderbolt. With this unbreached thunderbolt he hurled [destruction] against them. Just as one might crush sesame seeds with a wooden pestle, so indeed dawn broke upon them, crushed and unburied. He who has a rival, who performs black magic, who contends, should sacrifice with these two. With this unbreached thunderbolt he slays the hateful, evil rival. And they also say: 'One who desires offspring should sacrifice with these two.' The stoma is here linked to the stoma; from a linked pair, offspring and cattle are born, verily for propagation. Then this seventh day becomes seventeen-fold. On it they approach the Mahāvrata. Prajāpati is seventeen-fold; food is the Mahāvrata; they provide Prajāpati with food in his own domain.
