2-8.329

With this very [rite] Āruṇi made Jabāla sacrifice. He attained the office of domestic priest to three competing [kings]: the Kāśya, the Kausalya, and the Aikṣvāka. He possessed auspicious prosperity. Seeing that prosperity of his, Śvetaketu argued with his father: ‘Gray-haired one, desirous of sacrifice, you go about endowing only others with prosperity and renown, not yourself!’ He said: ‘Do not, do not speak [so] to me, my dear son! Only the sacrificial rite was understood by me. I sought to understand it in a low-born pseudo-Brahmin, as it were. That was indeed just as they taught it to me, or even far beyond that. This sacrifice is indeed the outwitting of Death. The gods who were in the heavenly world were afraid of Death. Therefore they ran to Prajāpati. For them he arranged this ten-day sacrifice. They took it; with it they sacrificed.’
