2-8.362
The Ādityas and the Aṅgirases vied with one another for the heavenly world. The Ādityas desired, 'May we reach the heavenly world first.' They saw this course [of sacrifice]. They undertook it. Thereupon the Ādityas reached the heavenly world first; the Aṅgirases were left behind. That is indeed the best of prosperities, that the holiest of worlds, which the Ādityas reached by this [rite]. 'May we reach that which is the best of prosperities, that which is the holiest of worlds, which the Ādityas reached by this,' [thinking thus,] they undertake these nights. The introductory Atirātra is sacred to Vaiśvānara, for non-interrupted Soma rites begin with Vaiśvānara.
