The Svarasāmans are seventeen-fold; the Viṣuvant is twenty-one-fold.
Prajāpati is seventeen-fold; yonder Āditya is twenty-one-fold.
Thereby they surround the son with the father.
For the father is dearest to the son; the son is dearest to the father.
If they were to place another stoma here, yonder Agni Vaiśvānara would burn him with fiery energy, [and] seize the creatures.
These Svarasāmans are six.
Six are the seasons.
They place him upon the seasons; therefore he goes south for three seasons, north for three.
Just as a son would walk around his fathers, so indeed is this, for the sake of avoiding monotony.
For a son walks around his fathers without monotony.
Now these two, the Viśvajit and the Abhijit, on both sides, are the vital power of the stomas.
With vital power these two hold the Viṣuvant.
Regarding this they say: 'The stomas proceed as if to a cutting of the stomas,
when from the thirty-three-fold they go to the seventeen-fold.'
Having undertaken the Abhijit before the six-day pṛṣṭhya rite, they should transfer above the thirty-three-fold the seventeenth-day rite which is in the middle of the six-day pṛṣṭhya rite.
When from the seventeen-fold they go to the seventeen-fold, from the equal to the equal, the stomas do not go to a cutting of the stomas;
they do not suffer distress.
2-8.386.p1
Regarding this they say: 'The six-day pṛṣṭhya rite is the body; the seventeen-fold is food.'
2-8.386.p2
'If they were to remove the seventeen-fold from the six-day pṛṣṭhya rite, they would put food outside; they would become hungry.'
2-8.386.p3
'One should undertake it directly from the thirty-three-fold.'
2-8.386.p4
Thirty-three are all the deities.
2-8.386.p5
All the deities having gathered, do they reach Prajāpati or do they not?
2-8.386.p6
So they go from the equal to the equal.
2-8.386.p7
From the height [they go] to the height.
2-8.386.p8
For the father is the height.
2-8.386.p9
Moreover, it is indeed an ascending.
2-8.386.p10
For the father is superior to the son.
