They are [the two stomus] relating to the Virāj, for the attainment of food.
There is a six-day period of pṛṣṭhas.
Fortune, indeed, is the summit, the pṛṣṭhas.
Thus they ascend upward to fortune, to the summit, to the pṛṣṭhas.
There are Chandomas; cattle, indeed, are Chandomas, for the attainment of cattle.
There is a tenth day; ten-syllabled is the virāj, food is the virāj, for the attainment of food from the virāj.
They say: before the silent stoma, praise should be chanted on these over-meters [beginning with]: 'This human thousand...'
An over-meter, indeed, surpasses the other meters.
Surpassing other [rites] are these participants in a year-long session;
thus they establish themselves in their own meter.
The sāman has a single-syllable finale.
Single-syllabled, indeed, is speech.
Thus by the tenth day they make speech complete.
The finale is 'gor' [of the cow]; the cow, indeed, is all food, for the attainment of all food.
Regarding this they say: 'The anuṣṭubh would be over-praised if they should do this here.'
Thinking, 'Lest we over-praise speech,' they praise in mind with the silent stoma.
And here, indeed, this is made complete through speech;
therefore this should not be done here.
