2-8.408
Therefore this tail is firmly fixed. [He sings] with straightforward [verses], without returning back. Therefore one contracts and extends this tail. Being three, he makes them twenty-one. Therefore this tail swells when one grows fat and shrinks when one grows thin. The Udgātṛ sings with the twenty-five-fold trunk, using the Rājana [sāman]. He thus establishes this trunk. Therefore this trunk is firmly fixed. [He sings] with straightforward [verses], without returning back. Therefore one contracts and extends this trunk. Being three, he makes them twenty-five. Therefore this trunk swells when one grows fat and shrinks when one grows thin. They approach the Udgātṛ each with one unchanted [verse]. With these the Udgātṛ sings. Thereby he establishes the limbs directly in the trunk. Therefore the limbs are fixed in the trunk. Then he sings with the last [verse] upon the trunk. Therefore this [trunk] rests, as it were, elevated above the body.
