2-8.416

Upon it they superimpose the Brahma-sāman. Dominion (kṣatra) indeed is the Bṛhat. Dominion alone do they superimpose upon the populace. Therefore the nobleman (kṣatriya) is superimposed upon the populace. As to that, they say: on this [right] side one must praise with the Bṛhat, and on that [left] side with the Rathantara, because all this [creation] rises up matching breath, as it were. And regarding this, Kīja Vākāyana used to say: 'Those who praise with the Bṛhat from this side and with the Rathantara from that side place food behind their backs. Food indeed is the Rathantara. Food, when obtained, approaches from the right side. Therefore let them praise from this very side with the Bṛhat, and from that side with the Rathantara, for the attainment of food.' And this fifteenfold stoma is for rising up [against adversaries]. Therefore also birds float around along with the left wing. With this whole [procedure] they arrive at the twenty-one-fold foundation. Twelve months, five seasons, these three worlds—that sun is the twenty-first. He is established upon all this here. Because he is established upon all this, in arriving at a firm foundation upon all this, they establish him.
