The Anuṣṭubh is first, the two Gāyatrīs follow; speech is the Anuṣṭubh, breath is the Gāyatrī. This breath is indeed the truth of speech. That is speech endowed with truth. Moreover, just as one would fit two newer wheels, in the same way they introduce this Anuṣṭubh at the beginnings of the three-day periods for the attainment of the heavenly world. Therefore, this very Anuṣṭubh should be used. Now, when I said to you: 'Yoke the tallest in the race', it was the Agniṣṭoma-sāmans that I spoke of to you. These are indeed the tallest that are yoked in the race, namely the Agniṣṭoma-sāmans, which are those unperishing days. Now, when I said to you: 'Attain fortune that increases upward', it was the pṛṣṭhas that I spoke of to you. This is indeed fortune that increases upward, namely the pṛṣṭhas: the ninefold, fifteenfold, seventeenfold, twenty-onefold, twenty-sevenfold, up to the thirty-threefold they step forth. Now, when I said to you: 'Establish yourselves in the heavenly world', I spoke thus to you: 'Let the Yajñāyajñīya be your Agniṣṭoma-sāman.' This indeed is the heavenly world, namely the Yajñāyajñīya; yonder Āditya is the twenty-first. In that heavenly world they ultimately establish themselves.
