It is indeed the Man that they sit as the year. Prajāpati is the Man; Prajāpati is the year. Having made oneself the sacrifice, they sit wishing to obtain him. His feet indeed are the introductory Atirātra. What is white beneath them is the form of the day; what is black above is [the form] of the night; the nails are of the constellations. These four are the thigh-joints: the introductory day, this Abhiplava, this Pṛṣṭhya, this Abhijit on this side, this Viśvajit, these three Svarasāmans, these three, this Viṣuvant, this Mahāvrata day, this concluding Atirātra. This is the form of the day; this of the night; the nails are of the constellations. They obtain this Man, Prajāpati, the year, as oneself, limb by limb.
