2.244

For what are three Gāyatrīs are two Bṛhatīs. These do not amount to forty-six Bṛhatīs. It is this: the morning pressing as it comes amounts to the Bṛhatī. Because the morning pressing as it comes amounts to the Bṛhatī, therefore the Brahmin is born already possessing a world. Through his conduct he makes it greater or he makes it smaller. Now, two [priests] bring this midday pressing to completion: the Udgātṛ and the Hotṛ. The Udgātṛ yokes four meters. And the Hotṛ recites after them and brings in three: Anuṣṭubh, Paṅkti, and Jagatī. A Gāyatrī and a Jagatī: they are two Bṛhatīs. An Uṣṇih and a Triṣṭubh: they are two Bṛhatīs. An Anuṣṭubh and a Paṅkti: they are two Bṛhatīs. The Bṛhatī is indeed the Bṛhatī. Because two [priests] bring this midday pressing to completion, therefore a world is to be made by a nobleman through sacrifices, charitable works, faith, and devotion to the brahman. Now, because the third pressing is just as before, therefore the Vaiśya also has a world from the Brahmin and the nobleman; the other [caste does] not indeed have a world like the Brahmin and the nobleman.
