Now, when, though the third pressing is in the Jagatī, he proceeds with it in the Gāyatrī alone, he causes the Brahmin to share in the Vaiśya's own [property].
He wishes to give to him through faith, through work, through service.
Indeed, when faith finds a Vaiśya, then indeed he desires a Brahmin.
He gives to him.
To that very [rite] the Anuṣṭubh is appended.
Now, when he sings the Anuṣṭubh—the Śūdra belongs to the Anuṣṭubh—he causes the Brahmin to share in the Śūdra's own [property].
He wishes to give to him through faith, through work, through service.
Indeed, when faith finds a Śūdra, then indeed he desires a Brahmin.
He gives to him.
He makes his own [property] exclusive; he has a share in dominion, he has a share in the peasantry.
He attains the intermediate state; he is not defeated in the intermediate state.
A hundred attendants, or even more, attend upon him who, knowing thus, does not sing the yokes variously.
If he should sing them variously, knowing that [former teaching], let him sing them variously.
And if he should not sing them variously, knowing this [latter teaching], let him not sing them variously.
'It is misfortune for him who knows only one or the other,' said Śāṭyāyani.
