2.279
These very stotras are all the gods.
Because the stotras are measured, therefore the gods are measured:
eight Vasus, eleven Rudras, twelve Ādityas.
Now, because the recitations are unmeasured, therefore creatures are unmeasured.
We do not know how many Brahmins there are, how many nobles, how many Vaiśyas, how many Śūdras.
This indeed is the measured and the unmeasured.
Both his measured and unmeasured become abundant, who knows thus.
"Those which are turned backward, they call turned forward; and those which are turned forward, they call turned backward. Those which you two, Indra and Soma, have made, yoked like poles, carry across the space."
The pavamānas are turned forward.
Their cups are turned backward.
They are indeed the in-breaths.
Therefore, having inhaled, one is able to exhale.
The recurring [chants] are turned backward.
Their cups are turned forward.
They are indeed the out-breaths.
Therefore, having exhaled, one is able to inhale.
2.279.p1
He who knows the seniority of the soma pressings reaches seniority, does not fall from seniority.
2.279.p2
The Gāyatrī is indeed the seniority of the morning pressing.
2.279.p3
Because whatever other meter is performed there, it is designated as Gāyatra.
