the jagatī twelve syllables, [and] 'vāc' is the finale of the Yajñāyajñīya. That makes thirty-two. The anuṣṭubh has thirty-two syllables. Thus he stated that the anuṣṭubh is all the meters. 'The bṛhatī is cattle': what is the anuṣṭubh, that is the bṛhatī. Placed upon four-footed cattle, it became the bṛhatī. 'Sacrifice': for whoever possesses cattle, to him the sacrifice is accessible. 'The heavenly world': for the bṛhatī indeed is the heavenly world. Now, Saṃgamana Kṣaimi, sent by his teacher Āruṇi, asked Satyayajña Pauluṣi: 'O Satyayajña Pauluṣi, when the gāyatrī has been chanted, the triṣṭubh is being chanted, and the jagatī has not been chanted, how do they all, having united, support the midday pressing?' He did not answer him. Thereby he defeated him. What he should have answered [is]: 'Because the Brahmin and the Vaiśya wait upon the Kṣatriya from below; and because two [pādas] of it became [part of this]; and because it is this twelve-syllable pāda.'
