2.286

She said to it: 'Homage to you! Desiring what do you pierce me?' It said: 'Give me a gift.' She gave it a twelve-syllable pāda. It crept back again toward this very gāyatrī. She said to it: 'Since I have given you a gift, what indeed do you still desire?' It said: 'Give me your entire self.' 'Then what will be [mine]?' 'Our food will be common; I shall place you in front.' 'So be it.' It placed her in front. She gave it her entire self. Because the gāyatrī gave its entire self, therefore the Brahmin approaches the Kṣatriya with his entire self. And because the jagatī did not quite give its entire self, therefore the peasantry behaves as if departing from nobility. Whatever [portions] the gāyatrī and the jagatī gave to it, that became this bṛhatī. Therefore the bṛhatī has three eight-syllable pādas and one twelve-syllable [pāda]. This gāyatrī is joined first: 'High [born] is your juice from the plant...' It is placed in front at the end. Whoever knows thus obtains the office of domestic priest, or the measure of a domestic priest.

2.286.p1

Then the bṛhatī, then the triṣṭubh.

Thus this food is encompassed on both sides by the priesthood and the nobility.

2.286.p3

Food encompassed on both sides by the priesthood and the nobility waits upon him who knows thus.

2.286.p4

Therefore a Brahmin must not plot against a Kṣatriya, nor a Kṣatriya against a Brahmin.

2.286.p5

For their food is common.
