33.205

"Having the mind of a seer, he who is a seer-maker, winning light, having a thousand melodies, the guide of poets"—thus they approach the thousandfold form of the chandomas; cattle indeed are the chandomas. "The buffalo desiring to gain the third abode"—for this third three-day rite that is the chandomas is performed. "Soma reigns along with the virāj, the triṣṭubh"—thus they approach the triṣṭubh form; for this day belongs to the triṣṭubh. And indeed, this is the power and dominion from before; along with that the chandomas reign. "Resting in the ladles, the falcon, the bird bearing [the sacrifice] far, the finder of cows, the drop bearing weapons"—thus they are endowed with cows and cattle, precisely for the acquisition of cattle; for cattle are the chandomas. "Pursuing the wave of the waters, the ocean"—thus they are endowed with the ocean, the form of the chandomas; for the ocean is the chandomas. "The buffalo proclaims the fourth abode"—for this day that is the chandomas is made the fourth of the days.

33.205.p1

These become triṣṭubhs, possessing the color of the triṣṭubh, perfected through the form of the day. Where they prosper [the rite] with the form of the day, it succeeds there. He who knows thus succeeds. "These Somas [flow] toward what is dear"—[with the word] "toward" (abhi), there is the form of the rathantara; this day is connected with the rathantara. "They flowed according to the desire of Indra"—that which pertains to Indra is the form of the triṣṭubh; for the triṣṭubh is nobility. "Increasing his vital power"—for this day, which is the forty-four-fold [stoma], is great. The hymn becomes the counterpart; the hymn is cattle, cattle are the chandomas, for the acquisition of cattle.
