With it he praised. Thereupon he attained food. That is the sāman for the attainment of food. He attains food, and becomes the eater of food and the best among his own people, who knows thus. And because Dīrghatamas Māmateya saw it, therefore it is called the Arka of Dīrghatamas. 'The tawny, vigorous stallion Soma is pressed'—thus [the verses] contain 'vigorous stallion', which is the form of the Bṛhat. This day belongs to the Bṛhat. 'Like a king, wondrous, he has bellowed toward the cows; being purified, he crosses the sheep's strainer; the falcon has settled upon his ghee-filled womb. Parjanya, father of the winged buffalo, has established his dwelling on the navel of the earth, in the mountains. The sister waters have streamed up toward the cows; he clothes himself with the pressing-stones when the sacrifice is advanced'—thus they contain 'cow' and contain 'cattle', for the attainment of cattle; for the Chandomas are cattle. 'O sage, you encompass the mighty work of the wise one; like a washed courser you rush to the prize; warding off misfortunes, Soma, be gracious to us; clothed in ghee, you put on an adorned robe'—thus they contain 'encompass' (pari), which is the form of the end; for this day is the end.
