If they were to release [speech] when [the sun] has not set, they would leave the night as a world for the rival. Having gone around the āhavanīya fire when it is half-set, they release [speech]. By means of both day and night they shut out the rival who hates them. He who knows this shuts out the rival who hates him by means of both day and night. But regarding this they also say: It is to be released only when [the sun] has set. Day and night, turning around, attain the year. The year is the sacrifice. Having thus attained the sacrifice, they release [speech with the formula]: 'Releasing the support to the mother, the support suckling the mother, may he maintain increase of wealth, nourishment, and sap in us, svāhā!' Just as one would harness a cow accustomed to home and drive her forth, so indeed they harness speech and the sacrificer and drive them forth. Just as one speaks with her, in that way she does not depart from them. Whatever wish they desire, on that they should meditate. That wish of theirs is indeed fulfilled. They release speech with the subrahmaṇyā. The subrahmaṇyā is indeed the brahman. Speech is the brahman. They thus release speech by means of the brahman.
