He saw this third three-day period, which has the gāyatra at the end. With it he struck away the evil from his feet. It bound him at the feet. He saw this third three-day period, which has the gāyatra at the end. With it he struck away the evil from his feet. He who knows this strikes away evil. By means of the three-day period ending in a tone (svara), Prajāpati protected himself from death; by that ending in a cadence (nidhana), his offspring; by that ending in iḷā, cattle. Self, offspring, and cattle: that is indeed all that exists. Because he protected (atrāyata) being (sat), that is the satra-nature of a satra. He who knows this is protected from all evil. By means of the three-day period ending in a tone, Prajāpati created the gods; by that ending in a cadence, the fathers; by that ending in iḷā, human beings. Because he created the gods with that ending in a tone, therefore they are immortal; for he created them with immortal breath. And because he created the fathers with that ending in a cadence, therefore they have death as their conclusion. And because he created human beings with that ending in iḷā — and cattle are iḷā — therefore to him who possesses cattle, human beings gather.
