That meter which has equal feet sustains the first day; that which has different feet, the second; that which has diverse feet, the third; that which has matching feet, the fourth; that which has redundant feet, the fifth; that which has comprehensive feet, the sixth.
Gāyatrī is having equal feet.
For Gāyatrī has three feet.
These worlds are three.
Triṣṭubh has different feet, for its feet have eleven syllables.
Jagatī has diverse feet, for its feet have twelve syllables.
Anuṣṭubh has matching feet,
for it matches Gāyatrī in syllables:
eight syllables are the feet of Gāyatrī, eight syllables those of Anuṣṭubh.
Paṅkti has redundant feet, for it has five feet.
The Aticchandas meters have comprehensive feet,
for no other [meter] has so many syllables.
58.315.p1
When Prajāpati created the Bṛhat and Rathantara, he saw the mind first as the Bṛhat; he [saw]
58.315.p2
Speech and addressed it as the Rathantara.
58.315.p3
Because he addressed Speech as the Rathantara, therefore the Rathantara attained the earlier yoking.
58.315.p4
And because he saw Mind first as the Bṛhat, therefore they are designated as 'Bṛhat and Rathantara'.
58.315.p5
Mind is indeed prior, then Speech.
58.315.p6
Mind is the Bṛhat; Speech is the Rathantara.
58.315.p7
The Rathantara is the priesthood; the Bṛhat is the nobility.
58.315.p8
This Mind thought itself above Speech; the nobility [thought itself above] the priesthood.
58.315.p9
Then the Rathantara realized: 'It thinks itself above me!'
