58.358
He took the very sovereignty of heaven, the dominion of the asterisms, the self of the atmosphere,
the form of the wind, the command of humans, the eye of cattle, the nourishment of the waters,
the sap of the plants, the motion of the trees, the tail of the birds, the flame of the fire,
the heart of the earth, the scent of gold, the thunder of speech, the gathering of the fathers,
the luster of the moon.
Because he took (ādatta) from these beings, that is the Āditya-nature of Āditya.
He who knows thus takes the fiery energy of his hateful rival.
That very deity is consecrated, hairy, possessing a black antelope skin.
Its rays that reach downward, those are the whiskers; those that are upward, they are the hair.
Day and night are the two black antelope skins.
Because it made its abode in heaven (divi kṣayam), therefore it is consecrated (dīkṣitā).
In heaven indeed he makes his abode who sacrifices.
Whatever victory one wins by consecration, whatever prosperity one attains—he who knows thus wins that victory, he attains that prosperity.
58.358.p1
His wife is the dawn itself, the moon is the drinking of Soma.
58.358.p2
Therefore, one undergoes consecration together with one's wife.
58.358.p3
That very deity takes away the fiery energy, the faculty, the vital power, the glory of him who undergoes consecration.
58.358.p4
He who is about to undergo consecration should wait upon Āditya with the words: 'You, the deity, are consecrated;
58.358.p5
you take away the fiery energy, the faculty, the vital power, the glory of him who undergoes consecration;
58.358.p6
do not take away my fiery energy, my faculty, my vital power, my glory;
58.358.p7
after your consecration, I undergo consecration.'
