6.19

Now the Yajñāyajñīya has its Brāhmaṇa already stated.

6.19.p1

"Flow, leader of speech"—

6.19.p2

thus are the opening verses (pratipad).

6.19.p3

When the Bṛhat and Rathantara were created, the Bṛhat was created first, then the Rathantara.

6.19.p4

Therefore,

6.19.p5

"Flow, leader of speech"—

6.19.p6

thus are the opening verses.

6.19.p7

Some seers saw [a verse with] "forward" (pra), others with "not" (na).

6.19.p8

Now this [verse] stands neither with "forward" nor with "not".

6.19.p9

The seer Bharadvāja saw the form of speech belonging to the Bṛhat.

6.19.p10

This Bṛhat is indeed Bharadvāja's lineage-sāman.

6.20

The mind is the Bṛhat. Prajāpati is the Bṛhat. He attains identity with Prajāpati who knows thus. "Soma, with wondrous aids, [looking] toward all poetic crafts, you the waters of the ocean"—[the word] "you" (tvam) is the form of the Bṛhat. Belonging to the Bṛhat is this day. "Driving forward the leader of speech"—the leader (agra) is this day. Being the second day, it is called the leader. "For your greatness, O poet, these worlds have stood firm, O Soma"—running away as it were from here is this day which belongs to the Bṛhat; for yonder is the Bṛhat. That [it says], "For your greatness, O Soma, they have stood firm," is for the standing firm of the day. "Toward you run the milch cows"—[this is] for attainment.

6.20.p1

These are Gāyatrī verses having the color of Triṣṭubh, enriched with the form of the day.

6.20.p2

Where they enrich with the form of the day, there they prosper.

6.20.p3

He prospers for whom it is thus known.

6.20.p4

"Flow, O drop, pressed as a bull"—

6.20.p5

thus there is a corresponding verse (anurūpa) containing [the word] "bull" (vṛṣan).

6.20.p6

Belonging to the Bṛhat is this day.

6.20.p7

The Triṣṭubh is the form of dominion (kṣatra).

6.20.p8

Regarding that they say: they take hold of the form of the day with the stotriya verse, and of the sāman with the corresponding verse.

6.20.p9

There are the stotriya and the corresponding verse.

6.20.p10

Breath indeed is [...] they take hold of with the stotriya verse, and of the sāman with the corresponding verse.

6.20.p11

There are the stotriya and the corresponding verse.

6.20.p12

Inhalation (prāṇa) is the stotriya verse, exhalation (apāna) is the corresponding verse.

6.21

Equipped with out-breath and in-breath they thus proceed.
The stotriya is mind; the anurūpa is speech.
The stotriya is the sāman; the anurūpa is the verse.
The stotriya is the day; the anurūpa is the night.
The stotriya is this [earth]; the anurūpa is that [sky].
The stotriya is the self; the anurūpa is offspring.
Indeed, that form belongs to the stotriya and the anurūpa, because whatever excellent speech [the superior] speaks, the inferior repeats after him; because both the maker and the tool, being similar, are known [as such].
Because of the stotriya and the anurūpa, offspring are born conforming [to the father].
A [son] conforming to him is born in his offspring, who knows thus.
Regarding this they say: 'They are deprived of the breaths, who cut through the triplets of the introductory day.'
Here they perform five continuous triplets for the continuity of the breaths, so that there is no interruption.
All [the verses] contain the word 'bull'.
For this day is related to the Bṛhat.
[The bull] is the form of the Triṣṭubh, of the ruling class.
There is a concluding turn for the stability of offspring, for the presence of cattle.
There is the fifteenfold stoma — faculty and vital power, indeed, is the fifteenfold [stoma] — it is in faculty and vital power that they proceed establishing themselves.

6.21.p1

"Agni, the messenger, we choose" —

6.21.p2

thus [this] is the Ājya [śastra] dedicated to Agni.

6.21.p3

Some ṛṣis saw with "pra-" [forth]; others with "ā-" [hither].

6.21.p4

Now this [verse] stands neither with "pra-" nor with "ā-".

6.22

The ṛṣi Bharadvāja saw the Bṛhat-form of speech.
Indeed, this Bṛhat is the lineage of Bharadvāja.
Mind is the Bṛhat.
Prajāpati is the Bṛhat.
He attains the state of Prajāpati who knows thus.
"The hotṛ, who knows all":
"ho-" is the form of the Bṛhat.
This day is connected to the Bṛhat.
"Mitra we call upon", "Indra indeed the singers [exalt with] the Bṛhat", "In Indra, in Agni, reverence, the Bṛhat" —
thus the Ājya [śastras] are of uniform nature; all of them indeed are connected to the Bṛhat.
For this day is the ruling class.
Therefore all kings have one counsel, one voice.
Two [verses] contain the word "mahat" [great]; two contain the word "bṛhat" [vast].
This indeed is the visible form of the Bṛhat, that which is "great", that which is "bṛhat".
Directly they enter into the Bṛhat.
There is the fifteenfold stoma — faculty and vital power, indeed, is the fifteenfold [stoma] — it is in faculty and vital power that they proceed establishing themselves.

6.22.p1

"As a bull purify yourself in a stream":
thus there are bull-possessing Gāyatrī verses for the midday pavamāna.
For this day is connected to the Bṛhat.
[The bull] is the Triṣṭubh form of the ruling class.
"And for the Marut-possessing [Indra], intoxicating":
thus there are [verses] containing the word "Marut-possessing".
"Marut-possessing", indeed, is the form of midday.
They do not depart from the form of the midday.
"Thee, the upholder of the two press-stones":
thus [it is] for the stability of the day.
"With this thought, purifying, golden-hued, purify yourself in a stream":
thus there are [verses] containing the word "hari" [golden-hued].
"Hari-possessing", indeed, is the form of the Triṣṭubh.
This day is connected to the Triṣṭubh.
