9.33
'Come near, let me speak indeed to you, Agni, words of higher praise;
with these drops may you grow.'
For this day, which is connected with the Bṛhat, is exalted.
9.33.p1
On them [is chanted] the Sākamaśva, a heavenly sāman, for the attainment of the heavenly world.
"For thus art thou, eager for heroes":
"eva" [thus] is the form of the Bṛhat.
This day is connected to the Bṛhat.
On them [is chanted] the Āmahīyava sāman, belonging to Prajāpati.
The ruling class, indeed, is Prajāpati.
This day belongs to Prajāpati.
It is on Gāyatrī verses.
Brahman, indeed, is the Gāyatrī.
This day is the ruling class.
In that the Āmahīyava is on Gāyatrī verses, they thereby endow the ruling class with glory.
Though he is a Brahmin, he has the renown of a king, who knows thus.
Therefore it is that Brahmins have the renown, as it were, of kings, because the uktha-brahmasāman is on Gāyatrī verses.
It is on [verses] that say the same thing.
For when many state the same thing, that is truth.
And since [it says]:
"For thus art thou, eager for heroes, thus a hero and firm; thus thy mind is to be gratified" —
this is for the flourishing of the truth.
"All have strengthened Indra":
for this day is strengthened, since it is connected to the Bṛhat.
