pañcadaṣa vā ardhamāsya rātrayaḥ | ardhamāsaśo vai saṃvatsaro bhavanneti tadrātrīrāpnoti
Fifteen nights indeed there are in a half-moon; and growing by half-moons the year passes: hence he thereby obtains the nights.
