saṃvatsaro vai yajñaḥ prajāpatiḥ tasyaitaddvāraṃ yadamāvāsyā candramā eva dvārapidhānaḥ
Verily, Pragâpati, the Sacrifice, is the Year: the night of new moon is its gate, and the moon itself is the bolt of the gate.
