gṛṇāti ha vā etaddhotā yacaṃsati | tasmā etadgṛṇate pratyevādhvaryurāgṛṇāti tasmātpratigaro nāma
Now truly when the Hotri praises (recites the sastra), he sings, and to him thus singing the Adhvaryu responds (prati-â-gar), whence the name response (pratigara).
