'Thou art Vishnu's stride,'--for in the form of Vishnu he strides;--'the slayer of the evil-minded,'--for he now does slay the evil-minded;-- 'Mount the Gagatî metre!'--for the Gagatî metre he does mount;--'stride along the sky!'--along the sky he indeed strides. He stretches his foot forward and strides: he raises the fire (yet further) upwards, for upwards he ascends.
