Meaning: [In which syllabic metre] everywhere, that is, in the four quarter-verses, the fifth syllable is light, that is, not heavy; [and] in the second and fourth, that is, in the second and fourth quarter-verses, the seventh syllable is light, that is, not heavy; one should know, that is, understand, the sixth everywhere, that is, the syllable of that number, as heavy, that is, long: this, that is, this, is the definition, that is, the nature, of the padya metre, that is, the metre named that. Padya: syllables in a quarter-verse: 8; there is no rule of metrical triplets. (11)
