atha yajñopavītī bhavati yajñasyopavītena upavyayāmi dīrghāyuṣṭvāya suprajāstvāya suvīryāya sarveṣāṃ vedānāmādhipatyāya śriyai yaśase brahmaṇe brahmavarcasāya iti \

Then he puts on the sacred thread: "With the investiture of the sacrifice I invest myself, for long life, for good offspring, for heroic vigor, for mastery over all the Vedas, for splendor, for fame, for sacred lore, for spiritual radiance."
