sam̐vatsaraḥ prajāpatis tasya yad udagayanam̐ śuklo 'haḥ pūrvāhṇas tad devānāṃ madhyaṃdino manuṣyāṇām aparāhṇas tat pitṝṇām atha yathobhayata ijyate /
The year is Prajāpati. His northern course [of the sun], the bright half of the month, the day, the morning—that belongs to the gods; midday belongs to men; the afternoon—that belongs to the fathers. Now, how the sacrifice is performed on both sides:
