"There is optionally elision"—because *anyatarasyām* continues from *jhayo haḥ…* (Pāṇ. 8.4.62). And this is clear in the Bhāṣya on the *laṇ*-sūtra. *māhātmyam*: the meaning is that here there is no elision of m. But the rule was not formulated as: "halo yarāṃ yari savarṇe lopaḥ"; for [then], in *ārdhnot*, *mūrdhnaḥ*, *śārṅgam*, *ārtnī*, etc., there would be the undesirable consequence of elision after the r.
