baiṭhe taba uṭhi bole sāhu. tuma Banārasī Paṭanẽ jāhu.
yaha kahi rāsi dei tisa bāra. ṭīkā kāṛhi utāre pāra. //

As they sat, the merchant rose and spoke: / "You and Banārasīdās must go to Patna."
Having said this, he gave capital at that time; / drawing the tilak mark on their foreheads, he saw them across the river.
