Tiruvarunaik Kalampakam 3.12

3.12

The female companion speaks to the heroine.
A verse of six-foot long-meter teacher-verse [aṟucīrkkaḻineṭil āciriyaviruttam].
"They say, 'A deer'; they say, 'A garment'; they say, 'An elephant';
they ask, 'Which is the way?';
they ask, 'Why?'; they say, 'There is none'; they say, 'The mango foliage
I hold in my hand is fine';
they say, 'Body'; they do not grant even modesty;
O deer of southern Aruṇai where they abide!
They say, 'Forest' about your tresses—
what can be the intention of the King, when one considers it?"
