The cowherd maiden.
Eṇcīrkkaḻineṭil āciriyaviruttam.
If we speak, you possess only two cows, / and the pots of milk you carry are of the same measure. / Moreover, you have grown exceedingly emaciated at the waist; / even being cowherdesses, is it dullness of mind, or is it sheer pride? / O maidens of the cowherd caste in the realm of Aruṇai, / [the city] of Him who wears an unrejected garland of bone ornaments, we have seen upon earth: / even if all [of you] separately take up a scroll, / you will depart without uttering even two [words]!
