ʿAlī b. Manṣūr al-ʿUqaylī, one of the Arab amirs of Baḥrayn, told me: Our voyages to India never cease, and we have much news of it. Reports have reached us repeatedly that this Sultan Muḥammad b. Ṭughluqshāh made splendid conquests, and among what he conquered was a city with a lake of water, in the middle of which was a temple of an idol (budd) venerated by them and visited with votive offerings; every offering that came to it was thrown into that lake. He drained the water from it until it was emptied, then took the gold that was there and carried of it the load of two hundred elephants and thousands of oxen. He said: He is a generous, munificent man
